Design and innovation are propellants for differentiation that leads to growth. Consequently, Pivot has recruited industrial designer David Crafoord as Operating Advisor in Design Management. David will simultaneously assume his employment with Pivot’s portfolio company Bare Collective.

Pivot was founded in 2019, with a focus to support its acquired portfolio companies in adopting a new strategic direction towards increased profitable growth. This encompasses changes in corporate governance and operations, as well as in innovation within all segments of the business model. Product- and service design are central areas in Pivot’s applied methodologies.

In 2020, Pivot acquired Esska of Sweden and ImseVime, and in doing so Pivot laid the foundation for Bare Collective, a group in the baby and feminine hygiene market. Bare Collective has an active acquisition agenda to further build and strengthen the group with companies with relevant offerings. David Crafoord now joins Bare Collective as Lead of Design and Innovation, beginning in April 2021. In parallel, David assumes the role of Operating Advisor in Design Management at Pivot.

David Crafoord, with 24 years of experience as an industrial designer, most recently comes from the role of Senior Director Design Expert at Veryday and McKinsey Design. David also has held an adjunct professorship in design at Linnaeus University and is established as one of the most reputable experts in design and insight-driven innovation, with diverse award-winning work in assignments with a range from medical technology equipment to consumer-friendly products and services. Notable awards that David has received are “Red Dot: Design Team of the Year 2014“, Baby Product of the Year 2020 and several Red Dot Awards for Product Design.

It is tremendously exciting to take this next step and to be a part of developing the role of industrial design in corporate development and as a driving force for shareholder value. Pivot has already in their foundations established, and in their work demonstrated, that this is central to them, which makes me really look forward to leading this work”, comments David Crafoord.

By complementing our team with David’s expertise, we are able to further create value through meaningful design, which leads to better, more attractive and more sustainable products and services. In addition, we clarify for the companies that we acquire and develop, our ambitions to develop the brand, products and business models with the absolute highest possible degree of design and innovation, and the importance we stress of being close to customers in uncovering new insights. Further, David’s persona exemplifies the values we have at Pivot”, comments Dariush Ghatan, partner at Pivot.

Pivot has acquired Umeå-based COS Systems, a leading provider of software to plan, deploy and operate modern broadband networks.

Founded in 2011, COS Systems has today a strong and established customer base in the Swedish market for open access networks. At the same time, the company is expanding with new customers on several continents, not least in North America, where broadband coverage is in many respects due for modernization and where fiber buildout is now increasing. The global Covid-19 pandemic has demonstrated the importance of a robust broadband infrastructure, which is now accelerating the expansion of broadband networks in many countries.

COS Systems’ international expansion will be supported on the Board of Directors by Stefan Georgi as Chairman, with significant experience from the sector as an industrial and strategic advisor, and Mikael Philipsson as a member, who has previously been CEO of IP-Only and has deep sector expertise.

“I am very proud of what we in the team at COS and our previous owners have achieved so far. Now that the market is moving towards an even faster expansion, it is a perfect time to bring onboard new owners. Pivot contributes with the experiences, resources, contacts and new perspectives that will take COS to the next level”, comments CEO Peter Lidström.

“We see a good owner in Pivot that has acquired COS Systems. With Pivot as new owner, COS Systems will be provided additional resources, expertise and networks to accelerate and realize the company’s full potential”, comments Gunnar Ekström, Chairman of the Board of Ekström Invest AB, which represents the sellers.

“COS Systems has shown stable growth, good profitability and built up a very strong market position. What we are most enthusiastic about, however, is the company’s unique offering for the open access network market, combined with the increasing pace of investments in this type of network, fueled by recent evidence of the difficulties arising from substandard broadband infrastructure. With the resources and expertise we add, we will accelerate investments in innovation and product development in Sweden and scale sales in international markets. We are deeply impressed by what Peter and all the employees at COS Systems have achieved so far. We look forward to contributing to COS Systems’ continued journey and together take the company to new heights “, comments Niklas Hofverberg, Partner at Pivot Partners AB.

Alongside Pivot, employees and board members will invest in the company. The terms of the deal are not disclosed. For further information, please contact:

Pivot takes the next step in building a front-running group within baby- and hygiene products through the acquisition of Esska

Earlier in February, Pivot Fund I (E) AB (”Pivot”) announced its first investment, the acquisition of ImseVimse. Pivot now takes the next step in building a front-running group within baby- and hygiene products through the acquisition of Esska, a leading manufacturer of baby products, such as pacifiers, bottles, teats, bibs and cups.

Esska, based in Lidköping, holds a long and solid tradition of producing and distributing products for babies. The company was founded in 1904 and Esska is today one of Sweden’s the leading providers of baby products, such as pacifiers, bottles, teats, bibs and cups. The products are sold through FMCG- and specialty retailers as well as online – under the brand Esska as well as private-labeled. The company has its headquarters and production of pacifiers in Lidköping.

“Esska is a Swedish gem which many of us, in one way or another, holds a relationship to. We are tremendously proud and happy to have the opportunity to, with Fredrik and all the employees at Esska, establish the company as a leading innovator of baby products and placing the company on an international map. Esska’s own production of pacifiers in Lidköping is unique and something we will fully support in the future. We aim at building a leading group within baby- and hygiene products, with Esska and ImseVimse as a starting point, and we are actively seeking further acquisitions “, says Karl-Erik Dexner, Partner at Pivot Partners AB.

”We are tremendously happy and enthusiastic about having Pivot as a new owner of Esska. We now have further power, embodied by competence, network and resources to continue to take the company to a new level. This creates enormous opportunities for our customers, suppliers and employees “, comments Fredrik Fischerström, CEO of Esska.

Pivot as a new owner of ImseVimse marks the beginning of further growth

Pivot Fund I (E) AB (”Pivot”) has, together with the previous owner and key staff, acquired Gotland-based ImseVimse, a leading provider of functional, reusable and high qualitative textile products.

ImseVimse was founded in 1988 by Marie Walleberg. Sustainability and the need to soothe her baby’s diaper rash laid the foundation for what is today ImseVimse. For more than 30 years, the company has developed functional, reusable and highly qualitative textile products for women and children – produced with care for both people as well as the environment. The products are sold to customers across the globe, through its own online channel as well as a wide network of resellers and wholesalers.

”At ImseVimse, we work together to create sustainable and circular solutions to products used by people on a daily basis, for which demand is increasing. I want to provide ImseVimse and its employees the opportunity to develop further and I have searched for a suitable partner to help us take the next step. I am really happy to have established this partnership with Pivot, whom with its additional competencies and network can take ImseVimse to the next level. It has also been very important to me that Pivot aims at retaining the local footprint here on Gotland and that they aim at developing the business from here“, says founder Marie Walleberg.

”Finding solutions to how we can create better and healthier products, as a solution to our everyday needs, with an improved environmental footprint is a must. We are deeply impressed by what Marie and all the employees at ImseVimse have accomplished. They are spear-heading the development of reusable and environmentally friendly textile products – with a circular approach, which we find is just right timing-wise and something that is dear to our hearts. We are looking forward to contributing to ImseVimse’s continued journey and to take the company to new heights “, comments Niklas Hofverberg, Partner at Pivot Partners AB.
